Myths That Undermine The Healthy Workplace

We all agree we want an effective and competitive workforce in Canada. But how do we create that? Research seems to be showing us that we need holistic workplace health systems which provide various types of support. This is needed to ensure improved quality of life for employees, both in the workplace and outside it. Employers who provide such support see dramatic results, including reduced absenteeism and health costs, as well as higher levels of employee morale and productivity.

One expert, Dr. Linda Duxbury of Carleton University, has demonstrated through research that social and labour policies contribute to the work culture that either supports or constrains workers struggling to balance work and home responsibilities. Her recent study revealed that at least 60% of Canadian workers feel overwhelmed by the demands of home and work. (see Work-Life Conflict in Canada in the New Millennium).
