ECG: A LEADERSHIP PRIMER

Every leader needs an annual Electrocardiogram–commonly called an ECG and a comprehensive physical given the pressures on today’s leaders. There is another ECG that I think today’s leaders need to embrace. In workshops and my coaching with individual leaders, I suggest that people follow the simple ECG rule when it comes to managing the inevitable confrontations that come with leadership responsibilities today.

An ECG for leaders

ECG is my short reminder code for the following essential leadership rule: make sure that you confront Early, Clearly, and Gently. Because the longer you wait, the muddier and harder it will become! Trust me on that one.

It’s a busy and demanding time to take on the challenge of leadership. Change and transformation–the essential concerns of authentic leaders–always seem to generate conflict and stress.
