How to recognize the symptoms of inner peace for a healthier workplace.
More often than I would like, I get asked to help groups and organizations work through some very painful and toxic conflict. Usually, these very stressful situations have been developing over months and in some cases, years. The conflict has become polarized and very emotional, with different camps blaming each other for workplace problems. And in almost every instance, individuals have suffered the predictable outcomes researchers have identified in toxic organizations: stress, sickness, and broken relationships at work.
Often the pain spills over into other areas of life. Anyone who has ever been involved in protracted conflict in the workplace knows just how messy and painful it can become for everyone involved. There are no winners in such situations. Only losers—although folks don’t usually recognize that they are involved in a corrosive lose-lose battleground where everyone becomes a casualty, especially in the early stages.
