The number one factor employees cite as negatively impacting their work productivity is poor management. Would you consider your boss to be supportive? Or does he or she score the same as hordes of managers who fail to make the mark and are therefore viewed as unsupportive, or worse yet referred to as “jerks?”
Many of you can probably recall a previous or present boss who would be right at home with a guillotine next to his or her desk. Make one mistake on the job and feel free to slip your noggin right under the blade. I think we would all agree, having an environment that promotes learning rather than fear of making a mistake is considerably more productive. Still, many managers we call “jerks,” use intimidation and ridicule as a way of increasing production and exploiting power.
