Personality Indicators: Are they faulty?

An old joke perhaps, but it seems that many of us like to categorize others. We categorize people by their similarities, as well as their differences. And, it is the combination of these similarities and differences that makes us unique.

Our personality characteristics can also indicate whether we are good in a particular job. For example, when you hear that Bob, who hasn’t been introduced to the sales team yet, is “a born salesman,” certain characteristics may come to mind—outgoing, competitive, and perhaps quick with a joke.

Managers and human resources (HR) personnel recognize there are common characteristics among those who are successful in a role and they have begun to formally look for these characteristics. Depending upon the job, it may be relevant to know whether we are decisive, strategic thinkers or competitive individuals.
