Why lean innovation works

Organizations are spending less these days, but widespread cutbacks should not cause a slowdown in innovation in a company if the reductions are treated as inspiration for positive change, says an expert in operations and technology at the Queen’s School of Business in Kingston, Ont.

“Creative organizations can be lean too, and this combination often breeds success,” says Professor Barry Cross, Lecturer, Operations Management and Technology at Queen’s University, in a interview with Your Workplace. “Lean is good in any economy. This isn’t the time to stop thinking about lean, because there is a direct link between lean and employee enthusiasm and customer appreciation of your products and services,” says Cross, who leads Executive Development courses at Queen’s on innovation, execution and project management.
