They also need to ensure that their rewards deliver a return on investment measured with positive employee behaviours and performance. An effective, results-oriented Total Rewards Package incorporates a broad range of monetary and non-monetary rewards.

Employees tend to view salary and benefits as the baseline return for their time. A pay cheque and benefits plan may get employees to show up for work, but they are not likely to motivate employees to contribute the effort that drives business results.
