Decorate!

Our workspace grounds us, keeps us happy and productive

A furniture and accessory store once ran a magazine ad showing a prison inmate in a beautifully decorated cell with the caption: “Make your space your own, wherever you may do.” He had knickknacks, an area rug, and an inspiring quote on the wall. Prison inmates do in fact decorate their cells as creatively as they can in an attempt to escape the oppression of the dreary gray walls around them. College students decorate their dorm rooms to create a home away from home and even teenagers decorate their lockers to stake a claim on their six vertical feet of space.

Decorating our space is a way to mark our territory, express ourselves and find comfort. We fill our homes with objects that remind us of vacations, celebrate our relationships, or simply bring us pleasure. Our possessions ground us and attest to our uniqueness. They inspire us and make us feel like we belong.
