Now that you’ve got ‘em, you’ve got to keep ‘em
A business is only as vital as its employees, especially in talent-driven industries. Retaining your top talent once you’ve got them is perhaps even more challenging than hiring the right employees in the first place. Often, competitive wages and benefits only go so far, and are only a part of a very complicated puzzle.
When it comes to retention, companies often neglect to look at the big picture, says Stephen Long, Professor of Organizational Behaviour in the Faculty of Management at Royal Roads University in Victoria, B.C. “When a company pays attention to how they recruit, manage employee performance and compensation, address discipline, and health and safety issues, there is no retention issue.”
