Being “engaged” at work used to mean company surveys, and is commonly known as employees who are committed, motivated, who feel a sense of attachment to the organization and who are willing to go the extra mile. But a new, more robust definition of sustainable engagement is taking it a step further: it’s also about being enabled and feeling energized.
What does this mean in today’s world of work?
Well, consider that data you have been trying to finish for months, or your latest project. Despite your commitment level, what is slowing you down? Is it your laptop, or the bureaucracy at your job? “Being enabled” is about having an environment that supports productivity, said Aage Seljegard, Senior Consultant at Towers Watson in Greater New York City.
