Do You Need a Vacation from Your Vacation?

Vacation season is upon us. At some point over the summer months many of us will be enjoying some well-deserved downtime travelling to foreign lands, basking in the hot sun, finally making a dent in the list of books we’ve been waiting to devour, throwing our diets out the window, and generally living it up for a brief period as we soak up the many pleasures to be had on vacation.

Vacations are a time to unwind, relax and recuperate. A time to enjoy ourselves and recharge our batteries so that we can return to work re-energized, re-invigorated, and better able to tackle the many demands placed upon us.

Most research shows that, to be sure, we generally benefit from our vacations. A number of studies have shown that vacations can improve our moods, enhance our well-being and make us feel healthier by reducing feelings of exhaustion. It can even increase our engagement and creativity back on the job, so that we’re more innovative and productive when we return to work.
