During an interview with the Canadian Positive Psychology Association (CPPA) about my upcoming appearance at the 4th Canadian Conference on Positive Psychology, the topic of Canada’s top strengths came up. If you are a positive psychology enthusiast, teacher or practitioner you’ve probably heard about character strengths — those qualities that are most central to your identity. But, broaden that to the country: can you guess what Canada’s are? First let me say I am passionate about the work that has and is being done around character strengths and their ability to improve our lives. In my work, I try to take the 24 character strengths outlined by the VIA Institute on Character, the non-profit organization where I am Education Director, and distill them into practical nuggets for practitioners, business people, coaches and psychologists. I really feel that working with strengths is a calling for me.
