A New Tax for Taking Time Off

Work is following us wherever we go — and we are letting it.

Picture a water balloon being filled by a tap. While it starts out small and elastic, very quickly it begins to grow. The rubber expands and is stretched thinner and thinner. If left untouched, it would soon begin to swell. Taking on more and more of the relentless water, the balloon would eventually become so engorged that … pop! It explodes and spills into the sink and down the drain.

Work can sometimes make us feel like the balloon. No matter how much time and energy we invest, the workload just keeps coming and coming with no relief. Without occasionally taking a step back, disengaging and just letting go, we might very well explode.
