Career development starts with asking yourself: Are you happy in your career right now? Are you doing what you meant to do, and how do you know it? Is there anything missing?” Heather Turnbull, a founding Partner of Lanaverde Inc., a human engagement company aligning organizational intention with remarkable people performance, posed this question to delegates at the 2013 Your Workplace Conference in Kingston, Ontario.

Sitting in small groups, delegates quietly answered these questions with the person sitting next to them. Then Turnbull asked: “When was the last time… that you had this kind of spontaneous conversation with someone at work? Do we have that level of trust in the workplace?” As people shook their heads, she added, “Maybe not, yet you just opened up with a perfect stranger.”
