NASA leader demonstrates why developing a contingency plan for “worst-case scenario” is important for all organizations.
Perhaps no one knows more about how to revitalize troubled organizations than Sean O’Keefe. As NASA Administrator, O’Keefe had the daunting task of revitalizing an organization still reeling from tragic circumstances, the Columbia accident. O’Keefe shared the importance of risk assessment, health and safety leadership and accident prevention in any organization.
“Developing a contingency plan really matters, and it matters a lot,” said O’Keefe. “I didn’t realize how significant the event was, to ask for the contingency plan in the event of a repeat of a Challenger accident.”
Organizations need to take a rigour analysis of risk and make a clear conscious choice of whether to accept that risk, said O’Keefe.
