Engaged but Restless?

It’s a paradox, but Canadian employees are both focused on their job and itching to move

Chances are good that your employees feel engaged in their work. According to a July 2012 study released by international HR consulting firm, Hay Group, 68% of Canadian workers are engaged, slightly higher than the global average of two-thirds of workers. Hay Group collected data from 1,610 organizations across 46 countries, representing 4,559,762 employees. It defined employee engagement as, “the result organizations achieve when they stimulate employees’ enthusiasm for their work and direct it toward organizational success.” Last year, the worldwide level of employee engagement dropped to a five-year low. Canadian engagement levels have held steady for two years running, but the top-line number hides worrying trends for employers.

Only 62% of employees around the globe feel that conditions at work allow them to be as productive as they can be. In Canada that number is slightly lower.
