There’s nothing quite like getting to work early, before everyone else has arrived, and getting things done. It’s time to focus, with a creative, fresh mind. While many complain about the form of email, one of the great things it is that it allows you to attend to items on your “to-do” list according to your own priorities and focus. And, it lets others do the same.
Nevertheless, focused time for creative thought and innovation, free from distractions (and even email) is the new trend in the workplace. Award-winning workplaces such as Google give employees scheduled time for innovation and creativity — essentially “you-time”.
Being focussed at work is key to critical, in-depth thinking and productivity. How many times do you change focus within an hour? For important tasks, try completing one task at a time and keeping only one application open on your computer. Second, schedule a no-interruptions time. Tell your boss and colleagues that you are unavailable and make an appointment with yourself. Finally, prioritize and have well-defined goals — write them down to remind yourself of why they are important.
