The Plight of the Mid-Level Manager

For those among us with glittery-eyed dreams of climbing the corporate ladder (we’ve all gotta find something to do with our time, after all), here’s a caveat: you may want to skip a couple of those middle rungs on the road to capitalist domination and unbridled success. A 2015 study finds that in spite of the pay bump, middle managers in organizations are the employees most vulnerable to depression. The study from researchers at Columbia University, published in Sociology of Health and Illness, looked at over 20,000 workers and concluded that supervisors and managers are the hardest hit with the black dog. A whopping 18% reported symptoms of depression.
