Readers of my column over the years will know that too much of my consulting work involves responding to toxic workplace conflict and its inevitable correlates: low trust, stress, fractured relationships and the absence of civility. The inability of educated and experienced professionals to sustain a wellness culture in their workplace continues to fascinate—and depress—me.

And that’s got me ruminating about what it might take for people to become valued colleagues among their workplace peers. If more people aspired to that goal, it just might reduce the number of workplace 911 calls I receive.
