One of the most common mistakes job seekers make is taking the summer off. Why should you keep plugging away while everyone else is at the beach? With so many people golfing, swimming and relaxing, there is less competition in the job market. Take advantage of their distractions and position yourself as the front-runner for that dream job. Here’s how:

1. Spend more quality time with hiring managers. Everything tends to be on a slower pace in the summer. It’s often harder to secure meetings and appointments with HR specialists and hiring managers because of vacation schedules, but many people who are in the office have lighter schedules and may have more time to spend with you. It may take two weeks to meet with everyone you need to at a prospective employer, but their attention will be focused solely on you.
