Management at a large business organization once had an idea about how to save money. They wanted to replace the printers in individual offices with networked printers in shared spaces. The savings would have been in the millions. The plan was set in motion and a memo was sent to employees. But when IT staff came to remove the old printers and install the new ones, they were met with a large number of complaints. The hue and cry became so great that management decided to phase the program in over two years instead of implementing it immediately.
