To work in an occupation that is benevolent can be the ultimate in rewarding work. Saving lives as a surgeon, freeing children from abuse or protecting our planet are jobs that fulfil the human need to give and help others. For those of us who feel our jobs simply make the world go ’round with but have little lasting impact, however, it can be at least rewarding to work for a company that values and promotes a spirit of giving. Many workplaces now make “giving back” part of their mission statement, and they facilitate ways for employees to give not only money but their time.
